Dog FOOD and Exercise

How would you feel if you carried around four 20-pound bags of dog food all day? DOG TIRED! 2 years ago, I used to weigh 80 pounds more and that’s how I felt. Run down. Exhausted.

Now I feel marvelous. Did I take a quick-fix pill or follow a fad diet? No, I just ate less and exercised more. That’s the only thing that really works.

Now that Beth is off to England, I’m getting back to business. I have 30 more pounds to go. It’s time to get busy.

I’m tweaking my exercise routine.

-- Monday and Wednesday, I’m on the treadmill.
-- Tuesday and Thursday, I take Pilate’s. It’s not as tough as last fall. I’m improving … slowly. When we’re on the mats, I can even touch my feet to the floor above my head. Not bad for 55.
-- Then (weather permitting), I’m walking 4 miles a day on Saturday and Sunday.
-- I get Fridays off. (I LOVE FRIDAYS!)

I want to push myself further on the treadmill.
First 5 minutes … 15% incline … 3.7 mph
Second 5 minutes … 15% incline … 3.8 mph
Third 5 minutes … 14% incline … 3.9 mph
Fourth 5 minutes … 14% incline … 4 mph
Fifth minutes … 13% incline … 4.1 mph
Last 5 minutes … 13% incline … 4.2 mph

Not bad for someone who used to be ready to die at 3 mph on the flat.

FAT and Tired

It starts out with being tired … tired because the kids kept you up half the night … tired because you’re carrying more than your share of the load at home or work or both … tired for a reason that isn’t physical exertion, but is still exhaustion.

You eat, because evolution wired you to refuel when you’re tired. But evolution didn’t consider modern stress levels. And evolution is only interested in reproduction. Whether you live to 100 or die of a heart attack at 40, doesn’t affect evolution. Once you’ve reproduced, it moves on.

My 100 plus pounds of excess weight made me tired. Being tired, I ate more. Eating more made me weight more. And my excess weight made me tired. It was a down hill spiral.

So far, I’ve lost three 25-pound bags of dog food or two 40–pound bags of water softener salt. Of course, I was exhausted all the time carrying that extra baggage. My knees used to hurt all the time, but now they feel marvelous!

We're programmed to recharge our batteries, when they run down. However, lack of nutrition may not be why you’re exhausted. Are you getting enough sleep? Food will NOT replace 8 hours of sack time. Wanna make dieting easier? Seriously, get enough rest.

Drink plenty of water, too. Drink a glass or 2 with your meals. Drink before you snack between meals. Water is the ultimate lo-cal food.

I’ve been working 22 months to undo 2-decades of down hill spiraling. I’m still climbing, but I can see daylight.
